Sawston Vs March 23/09

Match Report

Sawston v March 23rd September 2017

Its been a long time since anyone in the Club has seen 24 players be available for our first game of the season.

It was good to see Robin Wardle on the pitch ,a Veteran of many Sawston encounters who was playing in his  39th consecutive season.

March turned up early with a full squad and looked meaningful. They  are being muted already as the team to beat in our league.

20 mins had gone by before the first score was on the board and it was March who opened the account. The rumours of them being a strong team were correct , they were well organised and had some talented players with Rugby know how.  Sawston were not overawed at any point and could have easily have scored ourselves

March added to their score making it 0 – 15 at half time to March.

Sawston were playing with the Sawston slope second half  combined with the fact that the March forwards were showing signs of tiredness at half time. There was cause for optimism?

Sawston were still playing well against a good team. Howard was having his normal storming game and our full back Mark was again putting in a strong performance . Ginge showed great pace and was hungry for the ball and it was felt if we could get the ball wide more often we may have got over the line .

Unfortunately though. March did run out the winners and the game finished 0 – 32 to March.

Lots of positives to take away though. We have to compare where we are now to where we were last year. What would the score have been against March last year?,I think we all know the answer to that.

At no point did March have hit easy .Sawston were digging in against a better team on the day . With some focus on the scrum and continuing the work with the back moves we will get success.

Thanks to March for being sporting and staying behind in the bar .

PS Hope Wilf and Mark Jarvis recover well from their injuries. Thanks to Kevin Jarvis who stood in at Prop later in the game .
